    • Shop around and use the internet as a starting point
    • Make use of personal recommendations
    • Find out what you are getting for fees, regardless of the amount you need to pay
    • Make sure that there is a balance between the fee you are paying and the amount of work involved in sourcing the right mortgage product for you
    • Write a check list of mortgage priorities
    • Scan the personal finance pages in the Sunday newspaper supplements
    • Make sure you give the broker(s) clear instructions – the cheapest deal on the surface may have hidden costs that will not be cost effective for you in the longer term
    • Ask your broker(s) if there is jargon you don’t understand
    • Trust your gut instinct when dealing with brokers

In a recent customer satisfaction survey, Clegg Gifford Private Clients asked which additional service(s) clients would like to be offered in the future.  Results confirmed information on (reliable) tradespeople (23 per cent of all respondees), a further 17 per cent requested Will writing services and 19 per cent highlighted information re overseas property.  Surprised?
